Not 100% sure why I created this post other than I found the Karmapa Dream flag and found it fantastic. From there I started looking at other Buddhist Flags.
Other than the Buddhist Flag Wikipedia page, there were not many posts that showed all the different flags in one place.
About the Flag
If there is such a thing as a universal Buddhist Flag, it is the one with five vertical stripes and five horizontal stripes.
The vertical stripes start closest to the flagpole and run from the top of the flag to the bottom of the flag.
The horizontal stripes are about the width of the vertical stripes and are on the outer edge (I think this is called “the fly”) of the flag.
The fifth stripe color can be a variation for the country or region it represents.
Colors
- Blue (Nīla) -: Universal Compassion
- Yellow (Pīta) – Middle Way
- Red (Lohita) – Practice – wisdom, achievement, fortune, virtue and dignity
- White (Odāta) – Purity
- Orange (Manjesta) – the wisdom of the Buddha’s teachings
